Our Approach
Between ages one and five, children make enormous gains in movement, language, independence, social awareness, and their ability to sustain attention. Battery Park Montessori brings Montessori education and trilingual immersion in English, Mandarin, and Spanish together across this period, giving children a consistent foundation as their abilities expand.
A Nursery Ones student may be learning to carry materials, follow a familiar routine, or communicate a need. By Nursery Twos, children take on longer sequences of work and greater responsibility for themselves and their classroom. In Casa, they enter a broader academic sequence in mathematics, literacy, science, geography, and culture. Teachers observe closely and introduce new challenges as each child is ready.

Language Immersion
Each classroom includes Montessori-trained teachers who use English, Mandarin, and Spanish. Each teacher consistently uses one designated language, allowing children to connect all three with familiar people and experiences throughout the day. Conversation, songs, stories, routines, and Montessori lessons give language immediate context. As children grow, the three languages become part of mathematics, geography, Cultural Studies, and other areas of the curriculum.
Children do not need prior experience with Mandarin or Spanish. Gesture, repetition, visual cues, and familiar routines help them understand meaning and participate with increasing confidence.
The Montessori Foundation
Montessori classrooms are arranged so children can find materials, carry them to a workspace, use them carefully, and return them independently. Teachers present lessons individually or in small groups, while long work periods allow children to become absorbed, repeat an activity, and complete their work.
Learning begins with concrete experience. A child might pour water, sort objects by dimension, build quantities with beads, trace a letter form, or study a map. Across Practical Life, Sensorial Learning, Mathematics, Language and Literacy, and Cultural Studies, the work becomes more complex as each child’s readiness and understanding develop.
Battery Park Montessori is an independent early childhood school in Battery Park City serving children from Nursery Ones through Casa 3/Kindergarten. BPM offers an authentic Montessori education in a trilingual environment where children are immersed in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.
BPM serves children beginning at 12 months in Nursery Ones, followed by Nursery Twos and the mixed-age Casa program for Preschool through Kindergarten. Families should use the current Age Cutoffs page to confirm eligibility for their child’s entry year.
The program begins with Nursery Ones, continues through Nursery Twos, and culminates in Casa, Battery Park Montessori's mixed-age Montessori classroom for Preschool through Kindergarten. Each stage builds on the last, supporting children’s growing independence, concentration, language, social development, and academic foundations.
BPM combines authentic Montessori education with trilingual immersion in English, Spanish, and Mandarin. Children learn in thoughtfully prepared, mixed-age environments led by Montessori-trained educators, with a strong emphasis on independence, concentration, curiosity, practical life, and social-emotional growth.
