The Next Step

For most children completing Casa, the next step is Kindergarten. New York City families may consider independent schools, public schools, and public Gifted and Talented programs, each with its own calendar and process.

Battery Park Montessori begins this conversation before families have to make final choices. Before spring break, the school hosts an Exmissions Panel led by the Head of School. Families who have recently pursued independent, public, and public Gifted and Talented pathways share their experiences and answer questions.

The school asks families to complete the public-school application even when they are seriously considering independent options, so that they preserve a wider range of choices while learning more.

Individual Guidance

In the spring, families meet one-on-one with school leadership to discuss their child's learning, temperament, interests, and needs. Parents use the summer to research schools and attend available tours.

In September, the school and family review the options together and build an application list, typically including 10 to 12 schools. The list is intended to be broad enough to create real choices while remaining closely connected to the child and family's priorities.

Through the Application Process

Battery Park Montessori supports families as they complete applications, prepare for school visits and playdates, and gather required materials. The school provides letters when needed, helps families understand the character of different programs, and uses its relationships within the school community to offer context and guidance.

Later in the process, families meet again to discuss preferences and identify a top choice. School leadership communicates with receiving schools as appropriate and remains available as families consider offers.

Outcomes

To date, 100 percent of children participating in the Battery Park Montessori Exmissions program have received at least one school offer. Some graduates continue at Pine Street School, Battery Park Montessori's sister school within Green Ivy International Schools. Others enter a wide range of public and independent schools across New York City.

Children who remain at Battery Park Montessori for Kindergarten have the opportunity to complete the full Montessori cycle, taking on greater independence, responsibility, and leadership within their mixed-age classroom. Families considering another school for Kindergarten can also work with Battery Park Montessori through the exmissions process.
